Our Story
At Metella Road OOSH, we provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can relax, play, learn and build meaningful relationships before and after school, as well as during vacation care.
Located on the grounds of Metella Road Public School in Toongabbie, we are a community-based, not-for-profit Out of School Hours Care service proudly operated by the Metella Road Public School P&C Association. Every decision we make is guided by what is best for children, families and our local community.
We believe children thrive when they feel safe, happy, and experience a genuine sense of belonging. Our service provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child feels respected, valued, and heard. Play is central to our program, offering opportunities for children to learn, build friendships, and support their overall wellbeing.
Our educators bring a wide range of skills, knowledge, and experiences to create meaningful learning opportunities. Through music, creative activities, and positive interactions, we encourage children to develop confidence, express their emotions, and build strong connections with others. We recognise that every child is unique and respond to their individual needs with flexibility, consistency, kindness, and genuine care.
We encourage children to take responsibility, make choices, and actively contribute to their learning and daily experiences. By supporting independence, decision-making, and self-help skills, we help children become capable and confident learners. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate diversity and respect each child’s individual background, abilities, culture, and learning style, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate and succeed.
Governance & Management
Metella Road OOSH is operated by the Metella Road Public School Parents and Citizens Association (P&C), which is the Approved Provider of the service PR- 00010319. The P&C is responsible for ensuring the service operates effectively, complies with all relevant legislation, and provides high-quality out of school hours care for children and families.
The P&C works collaboratively with the Director and leadership team to support the ongoing management of the service. Open communication between the Approved Provider, leadership team and educators ensures continuous improvement, sound decision-making and the delivery of a quality service that reflects our philosophy and commitment to children’s wellbeing.
As the Approved Provider, the Metella Road Public School P&C is responsible for ensuring the service’s policies and procedures comply with the Education and Care Services National Law and National Regulations and are regularly reviewed to reflect current legislation and best practice.
Families are encouraged to become involved in the service through the Metella Road Public School P&C. Parents and carers are welcome to attend P&C meetings or contact the service if they have any questions, suggestions or feedback.
If you have a complaint, grievance or concern, we encourage you to discuss the matter with the Director in the first instance. If the matter cannot be resolved, it may be submitted in writing to the President of the Metella Road Public School P&C MetellaRoadPandC@outlook.com. Families also have the right to contact the NSW Regulatory Authority directly at ececd@det.nsw.edu.au.

Our Program
At Metella Road OOSH, we believe children thrive when they have the freedom to play, explore and make choices about how they spend their time. Guided by the My Time, Our Place – Framework for School Age Care in Australia (Version 2.0), our educational program is built on the principle that children are capable, confident learners who develop through meaningful relationships, play and experiences.
Our service operates on the principle of spontaneous play, where children are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of experiences while having the autonomy to choose what interests them. Each day offers a balance of child led and educator supported opportunities, including creative arts, STEM, construction, dramatic play, sport, cooking, music, dance, games and interest based projects. We also celebrate special events throughout the year, recognising cultural celebrations, community events and milestones.
We understand that children also need opportunities to unwind after a busy school day. Alongside active experiences, we provide calm and restful spaces where children can relax, read, draw, chat with friends or simply enjoy some quiet time.
Our educators intentionally plan experiences that extend children’s learning, build on their strengths and interests, and encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Programming is informed by children’s play, observations, conversations and reflections, as well as educator reflections and intentional teaching opportunities. While many experiences are thoughtfully planned in advance, our program remains flexible, allowing educators to capture spontaneous learning moments and follow children’s emerging ideas throughout the day.
Children play an active role in shaping our program. They are regularly invited to share ideas, suggest activities, reflect on experiences and provide feedback about what they enjoy or would like to explore next. Their voices influence not only our daily planning but also the resources we purchase and the environments we create.
We value families as essential partners in our educational program. Through conversations, surveys, feedback opportunities and community engagement, families help us understand each child’s interests, culture and strengths. This collaborative approach ensures our program reflects the unique needs of our children, families and community.

Our Educational Program
At Metella Road OOSH, we believe the best learning happens when children are having fun, following their interests and feeling safe, supported and valued. Every afternoon and before school, children have the opportunity to choose how they spend their time, giving them the freedom to play, create, explore, relax and connect with others.
Guided by My Time, Our Place – Framework for School Age Care in Australia (Version 2.0), we provide a child-centred program that recognises every child as capable, curious and full of potential. Our educators create engaging environments where children can build friendships, develop new skills and enjoy meaningful experiences at their own pace.
Each day offers a variety of experiences designed to suit different interests, abilities and energy levels. Children might choose to get creative through arts and crafts, explore STEM activities, build with construction materials, take part in cooking experiences, enjoy music and dance, participate in sports and active games, engage in imaginative play, or simply spend time with friends. Throughout the year, we also celebrate cultural events, community occasions and special themed days that make our program exciting and memorable.
We know that after a busy day at school, every child has different needs. Some are ready to run, play and burn off energy, while others simply need time to relax. That’s why we provide a balance of active experiences alongside calm spaces where children can read, draw, play quietly or unwind in a comfortable environment.
Our educators carefully plan experiences that encourage creativity, confidence, independence and problem-solving, while remaining flexible enough to embrace the spontaneous moments that often lead to the richest learning. By observing children’s interests, listening to their ideas and engaging in meaningful conversations, we ensure our program continues to evolve with the children who attend our service.
